Statement on the Storey Creative Industries Centre

Lancaster City Council was informed by the Storey Creative Industries Centre Ltd (SCIC Ltd) on August 15 that the company intended to cease trading from 5pm that day, and to put the company into liquidation.

The city council awaits correspondence from the insolvency practitioner who has been appointed by the company to assist it in the liquidation process.

The Storey Institute is currently leased to SCIC Ltd by the council. Until that lease is brought to an end by surrender, forfeiture or disclaimer, the management of the building and responsibility for the sub-tenants remains with the company.

Further information has now been received from the tenants, who have informed the council that they are still operating from the building. The city council will now consider this to inform its own position.

Council Leader, Councillor Eileen Blamire, said: “A a meeting will be organised with tenants as soon as possible. Clearly, however, there is a process to be followed regarding the liquidation of the company and the council’s actions must fit with those arrangements.”
