Respect the insects at Williamson Park

Williamson Park in Lancaster is inviting you to respect our insects with a number of events taking place in June to celebrate National Insect Week.

From lovable ladybirds to bumble bees, there are lots of species waiting to be discovered so come to Williamson Park and celebrate their diversity from 25 June – 1 July.

Visitors to the Butterfly House can join in the ‘Meet the Keeper’ sessions for a talk about the wonderful inhabitants in its tropical environment. Sessions will take place daily at 11am.

There are several handling sessions throughout the week when visitors are given the opportunity to hold some of the mini beasts that live in the park’s special darkened cave.

To see insects in their natural habitats, you can join park staff for a bug hunt around Fenham Carr and use some of the specialist equipment to identify your finds.

Bug hunts take place on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1. Bug hunts are free of charge and there’s no need to book. Simply meet the staff outside the cafe at 1pm.

For more details and an itinerary, please visit www.lancaster.gov.uk/williamsonpark or call the park on 01524 33318.
