Lancaster pedestrian zone parking and dispensations

Disabled parking arrangements

The Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) introduced on 1st December 2014 makes significant changes to the disabled parking arrangements in the Pedestrian Zone. From this date all Blue Badge holders can access part of the Zone to park in the designated bays on New Street and Church Street. Vehicles correctly displaying a valid Blue Badge can park for a maximum of three hours (with no return within six hours) but cannot park anywhere outside the designated bays.

Blue Badge holders will not be able to access the rest of the Zone by vehicle - ie Market Square, the lower part of Market Street, Cheapside and the whole of Penny Street.

Emergency parking dispensations

Goods vehicles may access the Zone from 5pm to midnight and midnight to 10am. Should there be a need to access to undertake emergency repairs outside of these hours (i.e. within the core hours of 10am to 5pm) and the vehicle is an essential part of the works, permission will be required. The driver/company will need to request a discretionary dispensation from the restrictions by contacting the city council’s parking team on 01524 582648. A fee may be payable for the dispensation depending on the length of time required.

Property repairs and planned maintenance

As previously mentioned goods vehicles may access the Zone from 5pm to midnight and midnight to 10am. Loading and unloading is permitted within these times if it is being carried out continuously. Should there be a need to park then permission will be required and the driver/company will need to request a discretionary dispensation from the restrictions by contacting the parking team on 01524 582648. Again a fee may be payable depending on the length of time required.
