You can pay your council tax in the following ways:

Online via our secure website

Direct Debit

Set up a direct debit online or call us on 01524 582900.

Telephone (24 hours)

By credit card or debit card. Call 0845 601 7297. This call will cost you 3 pence per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.

Through your bank/online banking quoting the council's account details as follows:

  • Your council tax account reference (as printed on your council tax bill)
  • Sort code: 01-54-90
  • Account reference: 64848426

Please note the council's bank account has changed from 01 March 2015, so if you have a standing order in place, you will need to contact your bank to amend the standing order to the new details above.

Post Office

Use your swipe card or barcoded bill to pay at any Post Office.

By post

Post your payment to us. Make your cheque or postal order payable to Lancaster City Council and write ‘account payee’ down the centre of your cheque if it isn’t there already. Write your reference number on the back.

Send your cheque to: Revenue Services, PO Box 4, Town Hall, Lancaster, LA1 1QR.

Unfortunately, we can not accept post-dated cheques. Please do not send cash through the post.
