The Heritage and Environment Day was a great success, despite the poor summer weather.

Highlights of the day were:

  • Friends Group members dressed in period costume
  • Entertainment by the High Society Jazz Band
  • Guided heritage walk
  • Chainsaw wood carving demonstration
  • Junior Ranger nature workshops
  • Re-dedication of Cinematograph Trade Benevolent Fund Garden of Remembrance
  • Exhibits and refreshment marquee


The following were all exhibtors at the event:

  • Tim Burgess, Chainsaw Woodcarver
  • Co-op Funeral Services
  • Royal British Legion
  • Lancaster and Morecambe Branch of the Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society
  • Lancaster City Council, City Council (Direct) Services - Recycling Section
  • Lancaster City Council Sustainability Partnership
  • Lancaster Accident Prevention Partnership
  • Lancaster City Council, Cemeteries Team
  • Torrisholme Cemetery Friends Group
  • Ecopod Coffins (not in person)


Donations towards staging the event were gratefully received from the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund and Preston, Ireland, Bowker funeral director.
