Household Waste Recycling Centres

HWRC sites are operated by SITA UK (not Lancaster City Council) and are staffed by a dedicated team who will assist you during your visit.

Location

There are two household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) at:

Opening hours

HWRCs are open 8am until 7pm seven days a week, 362 days a year (closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day)

What can I recycle at the HWRC?

Glass, paper, cans, foil, plastic bottles, shoes, books, textiles, rubble, metals, batteries (household and car), oil, garden waste, white goods, TVs, computers and paint.

Access policy and permits

HWRCs operate an Access Policy and Permit Scheme which restricts use of the sites by certain large vehicles and trailers. This policy helps to increase safety and reduce conjestion at the sites.

Please also remember that the HWRC's do not accept trade waste of any description.

For further information see the Lancashire County Council HWRC permit page.

Commercial Waste Recycling

The council offers a commercial recycling service to businesses and organisations in Lancaster and Morecambe.

We have expanded our recycling options in the Lancaster and Morecambe area to incorporate the collection of clean tins, cans, plastic bottles/bags/film and bubble wrap, office waste paper and cardboard as a mixed collection, thereby removing the need for items to be separated. In addition there will be a separate glass recycling service we can offer in Lancaster outside the pedestrianised area.

We will continue to offer the office waste paper collection to rural areas and will look to extend this service in the future.

If you would like to participate in the mixed recycling service and/or glass recycling service, please contact us on 01524 582415 or 01524 582416.
