Land Allocations

Spatial Planning Exercise

Spatial Planning Exercise

The Land Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD) will have site, location and area specific policies. It will identify areas for development as well as areas which should be protected from development. This document  will direct where homes, employment land, services and future investment will go in the district over the next 15 years.

This is a really exciting time for the Lancaster district - a real opportunity to shape the area we live in for ourselves and future generations. Please help us in this process and get involved!

What we are doing now

The Land Allocations DPD Consultation Report on the findings of the Developing the Options Consultation held July - September 2011 is available to download as a pdf from the right of the screen. The document can also be view online by following the link below:

Consultation on the draft Land Allocations DPD

Strategic site options

The Land Allocations process is identifying sites that are important if the district's needs for housing, employment, and retail land and its regeneration aspirations are to be met. As part of the preparation of the next stage of the Land Allocations DPD the council are in discussions with the land owners and the developers of these strategic sites to find out if they are suitable, available and achievable. If the sites pass these tests they will be carried through to the Preferred Options stage which will be consulted on early 2012.

As details of strategic site options become available, we will publish them below:

• Bailrigg
• Grab Lane
• Whinney Carr

Stages already completed

• Combined Scoping Exercise for Land Allocations DPD and Development Management DPD was carried out to invesitgate what issues should be addressed, the geograhical area and timescales that the DPD should cover. Members of the public and local service providers were consulted.
• Thematic Workshops were held to discuss the issues of sustainable transport, renewable energy and climate change, green infrastructure, meeting econmic needs and meeting future development needs.
• Rural Engagement events were held with Parish Councils and other rural stakeholders to discuss the needs and concerns for the district's rural communities.
• Spatial Planning Events (Become a Planner for the Evening) invited local people to select where they would place new housing and experience the difficulties and possible impact of choices.

All the reports and documents for above stages of the Land Allocations DPD process can be downloaded from the right side of the screen.

Local Plan proposals map

The proposals map from the Local Plan is available to view online here; it shows the current land allocations in the district from the local Plan and should be referred to until the Land Allocations DPD is formally adopted.

Next steps

Following the consultation events, the information will now be used to update the documents which will be available for final consultation early 2012. It is expected that the new documents will be 'adopted' by the council early 2013.
