Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)

The SHLAA is a comprehensive assessment of potential housing land within the district. It will be key to ensuring that sufficient, suitable land is identified to meet the housing needs of existing and future residents in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The SHLAA is a central piece of evidence used to allocate housing sites.

Latest Update

To ensure that a sound local plan is prepared, it is the Council’s responsibility to consider the suitability of these sites for helping to meet the district’s development needs. To ensure this is achieved in a robust, consistent and comprehensive manner, the Council is currently undertaking a further Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) which will consider the suitability of all sites known at this point. This includes sites which have been suggested for both housing and employment purposes. The SHELAA is due for completion around the end of 2017 and it will inform the site allocations within the publication version of the emerging Local Plan.
