Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC)

HWRC sites are operated by SITA UK (not Lancaster City Council) and are staffed by a dedicated team who will assist you during your visit.

Location

There are two household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) at:

  • Salt Ayre, Ovangle Road, Lancaster
  • Keer Bridge, Scotland Road, Carnforth

Opening hours

HWRCs are open seven days a week, 362 days a year (closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day)

• 8am - 7pm 1st March - 31st October
• 9am - 6pm 1st November - 28/29th February

Access policy and permits

The HWRC's are for householders only. HWRCs operate an Access Policy and Permit Scheme which restricts use of the sites by certain large vehicles and trailers. This policy helps to increase safety, reduce congestion and prevent businesses using the sites.

Materials that can be recycled include paper, cardboard, glass, cans and plastic bottles.

The banks are located at:

  • Penny Street
  • Cheapside
