Canal Quarter Strategic Regeneration Framework (Supplementary Planning Document)
Lancaster City Council commissioned consultants Avison Young/Planit IE to develop a strategic regeneration framework for the redevelopment of the Canal Quarter – the area of Lancaster city centre containing the old Mitchell’s Brewery site and adjacent car parks bounded to the east by the Lancaster Canal.
Earlier this year a series of engagement events were held with representatives from a wide body of organisations and consultation undertaken with the wider community to ask what the document should contain, leading to the publication of a draft supplementary planning document (SPD) - the Canal Quarter strategic regeneration framework - which, once approved, will be a material consideration in planning decisions of the area.
The draft SPD for the Canal Quarter presents a vision and development strategies, supported by a set of design principles, to guide the future development of the area over the next 15-20 years including for acceptable uses of land and buildings and essential ingredients such as sustainability and incorporation of green space.
From December 2019 to10 February 2020 people were asked to have their say on this vision. All comments received are now being taken into consideration when developing the final draft SPD
