Help with applying

So you’ve decided to apply for one of our jobs? Great! Now we want to give you the best possible chance of securing that interview so have a read through our tips before you start completing the application form. If you already have an interview then please see About your interview for some more guidance.

First off...

Make sure you read the Job Description and Person Specification carefully. The Person Specification will list the Qualifications, Knowledge/Skills/Abilities, Experience and Other Requirements needed for the role as outlined in the Job Description. In the next two columns will be an indication of whether the requirement is Essential or Desirable.

Where indicated as Essential you must meet that criteria to be shortlisted for interview, so if you don’t then this is probably not the role for you.

Desirable means that we would prefer that you meet that criteria but will consider your application without it. We may use this category to help us short list where a large number of applicants have all achieved the essential requirements. The Verified By column tells you how and at what stage we will judge your application against the criteria.

Hint: If it states ‘Application Form’ in the Verified By column make sure that you clearly evidence how you meet this criteria when filling out the form, even if you think it is obvious from your background.
