Festivals and Events
Our annual highlights include - Morecambe Sandcastle Festival, 'We Do Like To Be Beside the Sea' Festival and Lancaster Fireworks
The Platform - our live entertainment venue in Morecambe - provides a varied programme of music (from pop to classical), comedy and talks. Each year we also run and provide funding for festivals and events, including, in recent years, the Lancaster Jazz Festival and Morecambe Heritage Festival.
See our tourism site City, Coast and Countryside for more leisure activities and events.
Arts Development
Arts Development is the name given to the ongoing growth of every aspect of the arts, whether it relates to arts funding, project and event management, public art, artist contacts or general information about development of the arts and creative industries in the Lancaster district. The Arts Development Team can assist with all aspects of arts development.
Museums
The historic city of Lancaster has six museums, including Lancaster City Museum, housed in the 18th century former town hall in Market Square, the Maritime Museum on the Georgian quay, and Lancaster Castle, where the Lancashire Witches were tried before being hanged on the moors outside the city. Museums are managed by Lancashire County Council.
Libraries
There are main libraries in Lancaster and Morecambe, and smaller libraries in Carnforth and larger villages. You can find your nearest library online, check and renew your borrower record, and book a free internet session on a People's Network PC. Library services are provided by Lancashire County Council.
