Captured Africans is a sculpture by Kevin Dalton-Johnson, commissioned as part of STAMP, the Slave Trade Arts Memorial Project and unveiled in 2005. The aim of the project was to show Lancaster's involvement in the slave trade, and to raise public awareness about this involvement.
About the artist
Kevin Dalton-Johnson is a Manchester-based artist and teacher who produces work in both 2D and 3D, and specialises in using both ceramics and pastel. Most of his work deals with the issues of racism, sexuality and religion. Kevin is a member of the Black Artists Alliance.
The artwork is located at Damside slipway, off Cable Street, Lancaster.
