The Queen Victoria monument, designed by Herbert Hampton, was given to Lancaster by Lord Ashton in 1907. It was originally intended for Williamson Park, and depicts Queen Victoria and four lions in bronze. The panels have reliefs of eminent Victorians, including Lancaster-born Richard Owen and Florence Nightingale. The corner pieces represent Truth, Wisdom, Justice and Freedom. The monument is located in Dalton Square in central Lancaster.
