The Tasting Garden

Bronze fruit in the Tasting Garden, by Mark Dion
The Tasting Garden is an artwork by American artist Mark Dion located in a walled garden at The Storey Creative Industries Centre in Lancaster.
PLEASE NOTE: this artwork is currently closed to the public
Artwork location: walled garden adjacent to the Storey Institute, Castle Hill, Lancaster LA11TH (access via The Storey)
The Tasting Garden was commissioned in 1998 as part of artranspennine98, an exhibition of international contemporary visual art. The garden was funded by Tate Liverpool, the Henry Moore Trust and the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England.
The artwork consists of a walled garden, arboriculturalist's workshed, a series of bronze fruits mounted on plinths, and corresponding fruit trees and paths throughout the garden.
Sadly the artwork was vandalised in 2008 and the bronze fruits were stolen. A project team has now been formed to look at fundraising for the fruits to be re-made in an alternative material, and re-instated, so that the artwork can be re-opened to the public.
