Rural Arts

Greenclose Studios & Our Lady of Lourdes Carnforth
In addition to the rich artistic life in our city and coast, there is a significant wealth of activity in our countryside. From Hornby to Heysham, Melling to Milnthorpe, our district boasts a diverse community of artists and organisations who live in the rural areas.
Greenclose Studios
Green Close Studios was established in August 1998 on the banks of the River Lune situated between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
The Studio Provides a proactive space for a small group of professional artists. Besides the twice yearly studio shows the artists exhibit their work internationally and nationally and have work held in private, public and corporate collections.
It is committed to bringing contemporary Art practice to a rural audience. Caring passionately about social and rural development, it is presently developing a programme of cultural and cross-cultural initiatives for the locality and wider global arena.

Spot On Rural Touring Lancashire
Spot On exists to enable people living in rural Lancashire to enjoy professional arts events on their doorstep.
The network is made up of 35 volunteers from villages across the county who enjoy promoting live arts events.
A scheme manager provides the link between the promoters and professional theatre companies (or music, dance, mime or puppetry) who produce high quality performances designed for small scale spaces (ie. village halls, schools halls, back rooms of pubs, someone’s field).
Spot On was set up in 1995 and now programmes approx 80 shows a year into 40 village venues to an average of 3,500 people of all ages right across Lancashire.
