Rain and wind doesn't stop play at this year's Seaside Festival!

Re-Take That on the festival main stage

Re-Take That on the festival main stage

The event, organised by Lancaster City Council and funded by both the city council and Morecambe Town Council, took place over two days (Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11) and brought a spectacular end to Morecambe’s Top 20 programme of festivals and events with a feast of live music, vintage attractions and fireworks.

The town was packed with people enjoying the free entertainment on offer.

On Saturday the arena stage hosted a showcase of live music throughout the day performed by top local talent. Marking the start of the evening’s entertainment, Take That tribute band, Re-Take That, brought the stage and audience alive. An expertly performed string of hits from the world famous boy band pioneers kept the family audience dancing before the programme of entertainment ended with a magnificent firework display at 9pm from the Stone Jetty.

The lively mix of music continued on the Sunday with, amongst others, local six piece soul band 24/7.

Unfortunately the Red Arrows and Battle of Britain Flyover were forced to cancel on Sunday due to high winds which were whipping across the north of the UK.

Despite the disappointment the crowds were understanding and the remainder of the Seaside Festival was unaffected.

The promenade was busy as it welcomed a cavalcade of vintage cars arriving at the festival for the 23rd Bradford to Morecambe Historic Vehicle Run.

A classic bike display at the Winter Gardens and a vintage fair and vintage tearoom at the Platform complemented this amazing display of vehicles and provided some welcome indoor entertainment when the rain came.

Local artist Chas Jacobs was kept busy at the Platform with painting workshops alongside an exhibition of his work and Morecambe Children’s Centre was also on hand outside the Platform to entertain the younger audience throughout the weekend.

Staff at Morecambe's award winning Visitor Information Centre were kept busy during the weekend and dealt with more than 900 people calling into the centre.

Coun Ron Sands, Cabinet member with responsibility for tourism, said: 'Despite the weather conditions, this year’s Seaside Festival turned out to be a wonderful weekend and certainly didn't dampen the spirits of the thousands of people who attended the event.

'It was a real family weekend packed with fun and it was great to see so many families enjoying themselves.

'I’m sure that those people who attended the festival who are not regular visitors to Morecambe will have seen what Morecambe has to offer and consider coming back for more.'

Morecambe Seaside Festival was kindly sponsored and supported by South Lakeland Parks, the Midland Hotel, JCT600 and Poulton Childrens’ Centre.
