Responding to climate change

Climate change affects us all
Lancaster City Council and its partners are working hard to develop respones to climate change in Lancaster district.
Climate Change Strategy
In 2008 Lancaster City Council adopted a Climate Change Strategy (a copy of which can be downloaded to the right of this page).
Climate Change Policy - Vision for 2020
We are now developing a wider ranging Climate Change Policy - Vision for 2020, which will take over from the Strategy and will include annual action plans detailing relevant projects to achieve our goals. A copy of the Policy will be available to download later in 2011, once the same has been approved.
The Policy relates to activities we will carry out during the years until 2020 in-house and with our local partners for the benefit of Lancaster district, largely through our work with the Lancaster District Local Strategic Partnership (LDLSP).
Carbon reduction targets
Lancaster City Council is also committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 34% by 2020. Our target annual carbon reduction is 3.4% until 2020. Since 2008/09 we have saved a total of 12.52% tCO2, which represents over a third of this 2020 target, meaning we are well ahead of schedule. Details of how we are progressing with this target can be found in the DECC report, which can be downloaded to the right of this page.
