Who we are

We are part of Economic Development & Tourism Service at Lancaster City Council with the aim of promoting ‘City, Coast and Countryside’.

Our Strategic Objectives are:

  • To develop the local tourism product
  • To actively market the district to visitors
  • To provide high quality visitor services
  • To integrate local destination management to improve the visitor experience

The Tourism Strategy 2006-2010 (PDF 200K) sets out the priorities for action by Lancaster City Council and partner organisations in the development of tourism in the district. It was written in consultation with local industry stakeholders and tourism organisations.

Read our Newsletter to find out more about us and our activities.

Public Art

Public art is not an art form, but a principle of improving the changing environment through the arts, placing art work in areas other than conventional arts venues. There are numerous examples of public art in Lancaster District, from the Queen Victoria monument in Dalton Square to contemporary commissions such as the TERN project in Morecambe.

Advocating the Arts

Lancaster City Council performs a strategic role in advocating the arts for the district. The wealth of talent, skills and entrepreneurship in the creative sector is the fourth most concentrated in the Northwest, behind Liverpool, Manchester and Preston.
