Local parks awarded Green Flags

Lancaster City Council is proud to announce that two of its parks have been awarded the coveted Green Flag award.

Williamson Park in Lancaster and Happy Mount Park in Morecambe have both received the national award, handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, which recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country.

A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that the park boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

Williamson Park in Lancaster has also be awarded special Green Heritage status.  Green Heritage status recognises the excellent upkeep of parks that are of historical and cultural interest.

Councillor Brendan Hughes, Cabinet member for Environmental Services, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive these awards. It is an incredible achievement and recognises that local people and visitors are benefiting from green spaces of the very highest quality.

"My thanks go out to the Friends groups and everyone who has been involved in ensuring the two parks are maintained to a very high standard, for the enjoyment and benefit of the community.”
