Planning for the district’s future

Residents, businesses and other organisations are being invited to take part in a consultation that will help to shape the future of the Lancaster district.

Lancaster City Council is in the very early stages of preparing a new Local Plan to cover the period from 2029-2044. A six-week scoping consultation has now been launched to give people the opportunity to have their say on what key issues and priorities the plan should cover.

The council is particularly keen to hear what the evidence it should collect, where development should go, and how the council should engage with communities and stakeholders.

Councillor Sue Tyldesley, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Planning, said: “The new Local Plan will be an important blueprint for the future of the Lancaster district. It will set out the long-term vision for future development, including where new homes, jobs, infrastructure and other development should be located.

“It will also establish how our important natural, historic and community assets should be protected and enhanced. I would urge anyone with an interest in the future of the district to get involved and to give us their views.”

The scoping consultation, which runs until July 20, is the very first stage of engagement in the preparation of the Local Plan. As such, it does not yet propose individual development sites or set out preferred options. All feedback received at this stage will help shape the later stages, when more detailed options and draft proposals are developed.
