Landlords’ Forum to help landlords prepare for new rental property register

Landlords from across the Lancaster district are being urged to attend a special forum for vital updates on the Government’s new rental property registration scheme.

Under the Renters’ Rights Act, private landlords will be required to register their rental properties through the Government’s ‘Register your rental property’ service.

To help prepare for the change, Lancaster City Council has arranged an evening of presentations, discussion and practical guidance.

Taking place at Morecambe Town Hall on Monday November 9 from 6pm to 8pm, the agenda will include a presentation by an expert from the Government funded Operation Jigsaw.

Introduced to help raise standards in the private rented sector, Operation Jigsaw is supporting councils in intelligence-sharing, training and enforcement.

Representatives from Citizens Advice North Lancashire will also be present to explain the advice and support they can offer to resolve housing issues.

Councillor Caroline Jackson, leader of Lancaster City Council, said: “We know there are significant changes ahead for the private rented sector and this evening is about bringing in the best advice and support we can find to make sure landlords across our district have the information they need to prepare.

“Our Landlords’ Forum is a great opportunity to find out more about what’s changing, to ask questions about what it will mean for you and the steps you can start taking now.”

For landlords in the North West, the requirement to register will begin on May 15, 2027, with a deadline of August 14, 2027. An annual fee of £65 will apply for each registered property.
