SupaSkips fire - FAQs for businesses
Can you provide information on the area surrounding my business?
We are actively monitoring and assessing the status of the area surrounding the site.
All partners, which include Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council, Environment Agency, and UK Health Security Agency, are acutely aware of the impact of this incident on businesses and are working together to bring it to a safe conclusion as quickly as possible and keep disruption to businesses to a minimum.
How long is this going to go on for?
This is an ongoing incident, and emergency services remain on site.
Alongside partner agencies, we are working on removing all the waste from the site as quickly and safely as possible. Lancaster City Council is funding the removal of this waste, and the site will only be deemed safe once all the waste has been removed and the fire has been fully extinguished.
Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot provide a specific timescale for when the fire will be fully extinguished.
What financial assistance or resources are available for businesses affected by the fire?
We recommend that businesses check directly with their insurance providers for specific details on coverage and the process for filing claims. Each insurance policy may have different terms and conditions.
I do not have Business Interruption Insurance. Can I claim anything?
Unfortunately, we are not aware of any funding that you can claim. If anything does become available then we will let you know, but this cannot be relied upon.
Is anything being done to protect our business from a potential rodent infestation?
The council's Pest Control Team have placed bait boxes in the surrounding area and is conducting frequent checks to monitor pest activity. Should you have any concerns, please contact: environmentalhealth@lancaster.gov.uk
What will happen if we need to evacuate in the event of an emergency?
It is highly unlikely that you will need to evacuate due to an emergency, however, should this become necessary, there are plans in place to alert all businesses that would be affected, at which point you should follow your own policy and process to ensure the safety of you and your employees.
Is there a point of contact for ongoing communication and assistance?
To receive updates, as and when they are available, you can be added to our database by emailing business.support@lancaster.gov.uk. Businesses can also use this email address to contact us for assistance.
