Our common marmosets joined us from Monkey World in Dorset who care for a range of rescued primates

In January 2018 we were delighted to welcome two rescue common marmosets to our small animal zoo.

Colin and Leo joined us from Monkey World in Dorset, a collection that specialises in caring for primates rescued from the pet trade, and includes various species of chimpanzees, gibbons, orang-utans and monkeys. Common marmosets are members of the Callitrichidae monkey family and are native to Brazil in South America, mainly feeding on insects and plant exudatives such as sap and gum.

Following the arrival of our little furry friends, we will be expanding the monkey enclosure to give Colin and Leo more outdoor space to roam around in.

You can read the heartbreaking story of how Leo was first brought to Monkey World here.
