Red lid bins/box

This fortnightly collection service is for recycling plastic, glass and cans.

To guarantee a collection, your waste should be at the kerbside (or collection point) by 7am on your collection day.

Remember to wash it and squash it to ensure you do not contaminate any other materials and to make more space in your bins or boxes.

Please put recyclables straight into your container. We will not accept any bagged materials unless we have provided you with sacks.

We will no longer be accepting side-waste.

What can go in your red lidded bin or box

You can recycle items, such as:

  • Aerosols
  • Cans and tins
  • Cartons
  • Clean foil
  • Glass bottles or jars (broken or intact)
  • Plastic bottles, bottle tops, pots, tubs, trays and empty toothpaste tubes
  • Tetra Paks (cartons)

If in doubt about what plastics you can recycle, look for a triangle containing a number. If it is 1, 2, 3 or 5, we will accept it.

What can’t go in your red lidded bin or box

We can't collect:

  • Bubble wrap
  • Crisp packets
  • Food waste
  • Garden waste
  • Hard plastic items (such as toys, CD cases, coat hangers)
  • Heavy metals (such as gas containers, paint tins and utensils)
  • Nappies
  • Plastic film, wrapping or food bags and cling film
  • Polystyrene
  • Refuse
  • Thick glass (such as heavy candle holders, drinking glasses, pyrex, mirrors or windows)
  • Wallpaper
Separate to your recycling container, we also collect:

Batteries

It is important not to place batteries in any of your waste and recycling containers as these can catch fire in our bin wagons or waste centres.

Find out how you can recycle batteries with your kerbside collection.

Unfortunately, we are unable to dispose of e-cigarette or vape batteries. You will need to take these to your local recycling centre.

Textiles

We can collect clean and dry textiles. Just pop them into clearly labelled carrier bags (not black bags) alongside your recycling boxes.

No duvets, pillows, cushions or shoes please.

Coffee Pods

Podback are no longer providing a kerbside collections service. Instead, you will need to order free bags to put your used coffee, tea or hot chocolate pods into and take these to a supermarket drop-off point.

For more information, please visit the Podback website.

How to dispose of:

Soft plastics

You can take soft plastic items, for example bubble wrap, cling film, plastic film, cellophane, fruit nets and crisp and snack packets, to some supermarkets for recycling. Check to find out where your nearest collection point is.

Garden waste

We offer a subscription service for garden waste. If you decide that you don't want a subscription, you can either compost your green waste at home or take it to one of the household waste recycling centres.
