What is consultation and why do we need to consult?
Consultation is about asking people what they think about something and letting them know what will happen as a result of them having their say.
We consult to ensure that we understand local needs and use the results to improve the delivery of our services.
The Council has a Council Consultation Policy, which provides guidance on what we need to consider and the different ways that we can consult and engage. The Lancaster District Local Strategic Partnership (LDLSP) Community Engagement Framework also provides guidance on this.

How and what do we consult on?
We consult our customers throughout the year on our services. It is really important for us to know what our customers think because it helps us to shape the services we provide.
When appropriate we consult on:
- What you think about proposals/policy?
- What you would like from our services?
- How satisfied you are with our services?
- What we could do to improve our services?
We use a variety of methods to consult including:
- Online questionnaires
- Postal questionnaires
- Telephone questionnaires
- Face to face interviews
- Focus/discussion groups
- Events/workshops

Have your say on the future of Public Services in our district!
Lancashire County Council Consultations
Have your say on the future of Public Services in our district!
It’s clear that the impact of reductions in public service expenditure will continue and public services will look very different in a few years time.
Public sector partners within the district, including city, council, county council, police, health, fire and education, are continuing to work together, and manage the impacts of the cuts to endure that out district is well places for the future.
Between us we provide millions of pounds worth of local services, from emptying bins to providing hospitals, educating our children to policing our streets. The issues facing this district can be best addressed by working together,
We have recently undertaken a round of meetings with local people and organisations to share the realities we all face and discuss options and opportunities. We will work together to ensure the public services available in the future are those most important to local people.
A report and key themes from the meetings can be viewed in the right hand download menu.
Send your views and ideas by:
